Windsor Castle is Her Majesty's preferred weekend home. It is a medieval castle which has served 39 monarchs as a royal residence. Windsor Castle is the longest occupied and largest inhabited castle in Europe. Over five hundred people live and work in the castle. Built after the Norman invasion in 1066 it has been remodeled to the point of being considered an interpretation of outdated styles of architecture. The latest major renovation occurred in 1992 after a massive fire burned significant portions of the castle.

The castle covers 13 acres and is surrounded by parklands, working farms and woodlands. It sits on the banks of the Thames and is close to London. There are many castles to visit iin England but Windsor Castle is one not to miss.
